ABS Ship Engineering is seeking a Naval Architect or Ship Structural Engineer to join our Ship Structures Group.
Engineers working in Ship Structures perform detailed engineering plan review of vessel structures for compliance with applicable ABS Rules and other regulatory and contractual requirements. Additionally, this position may provide technical advice to Surveyors and other ABS technical entities; as well as solving complex engineering problems such as the conflicting design requirements, material standards or the coordination of activities among multiple disciplines and clients. ABS Engineers work directly with clients on specific structural requirements and projects.
Candidates must possess a Bachelors degree in Naval Architecture with experience in the design of ship structures. Other degrees may be considered pending experience. Knowledge of section modulus, hand calculations related to load, and ship stability is desired. An understanding of ABS Rules, USCG Regulations, International Requirements, and a structural software package is preferred. Applicants should have excellent problem solving and customer service skills, as well as the ability to communicate professionally in English across a variety of technical and non-technical audiences. Familiarity with AutoCAD and having either shipyard or operational maritime experience is a plus. Applicant must be U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident due to US government security requirements
